Hi everybody,
it has been a while since I wrote my last post and I want to keep you informed on what I’m working on. Since release 2.2 I started to work on a new project that will be the core library for PDFsam 3. This new project is a java library based on the pdfsam-console but written from scratch. The reasons why I’m rewriting the pdfsam-console are many but the most interesting for you users, I think is that this new library will be, hopefully, the core for an online version of PDFsam. Of course I’m still supporting PDFsam on the forum and I’ll fix bugs opened in these months and nothing changes at the moment, I just wanted to let you know what’s going on.

  1. I have just started looking for open source library which would allow to split/merge pdf.
I need to use it from the web page, so your library idea is excellent.

  2. I just used the split option for the first time.
I would have liked an option where the bookmark name is used as the file name.

  3. I’m very interested in using PDFSam as a library in my own projects, so if you have something bleeding edge to try out, please post the news here – I guess I’ll just peek into the SVN and check out HEAD:)

Also, I need to split a PDF based on tags that appear on specific pages I don’t know beforehand (some text I can search for), is this planned for a future release? (a find() that returns the page number which I can then split on)

Thanks for the great work, you were Google #1 hit on my search for “pdf split and merge” 🙂

  4. Hi Andrea,

    Great work so far!

I just want to highlight that a lot of road-warriors may use your magnificent tool on the run without stable internet or in areas with poor internet infrastructure.

For me an online version is in no way an option. If i need to hope for a stable internet connection on the road to use pdfsam i need to look for a new tool.

Of course you already mentioned that you will continue to support pdfsam 2.2 but i just want to highlight this 🙂

    Best Regards,

  5. I just discovered PDFsam! It is a great tool. Please don’t make future versions online only! I had almost 200MB of PDFs to combine today and using an online tool would not have been feasible at all for me.
